Hi I'm Karen O'Donnell! I am a portrait photographer specializing in children's portraits and professional headshot photography. Portrait photography is sort of a catchall phrase though so as you browse through my site you will see that I work with expectant mothers, newborns, family's and also do occasional weddings and engagement sessions.
I am also a theatre photographer, employed by the Theatre Department of a well known Musical Theatre College. And last but not least I also do some fine art photography.
I started out as a part time professional photographer in the early 70's doing photojournalistic work. My photo journal of the Staten Island Rapid Transit was published in "Print" Magazine as was a photo documentary study of the post World War II reconstruction of churches in France.
But I had a family and a career as a Registered Nurse and a very active part time career as an actress so my photography became a hobby for me, documenting my children's growth and our family life. I did continue to study photography at the American Institute of Photography and remained abreast of changes especially the move to digital photography.
Five years ago after having retired from my nursing career, I finally make the leap to full time professional photographer. I've never been happier.
My experience as a Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery, Foster Care and Hospice, has given me the skills and the compassion to work well with people and you will find yourself and your children or family well cared for when we have a session.
My motto is "I shoot from the heart" and that's exactly what I do....I love to capture those special moments that you will cherish each and every time you look back at a print from one of our sessions.
